STAR CITY — A hotel housekeeper accused of taking personal checks from a guest’s room now faces a felony charge.
Tricia Burns, 41, of Morgantown, was charged with forgery by the Star City Police. She was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate on Thursday, Dec. 3 and bail set at $5,000.
According to her criminal complaint: Officer Colebank received a complaint of forgery from Best Western. The manager said personal checks had been taken from guest rooms and cashed by Burns, an employee.
On Nov. 30, Burns cashed a check for $200. Another check was cashed Dec. 1 for $200 and again on Dec. 2 for $150. Star City Police Chief Vic Propst said the investigation is still ongoing, and it’s unknown if she took items from additional rooms.
Colebank spoke with Burns who admitted of cashing the checks because she really needed the money.
If convicted, Burns will face one to ten years in prison.
