This website was built to give Supervisors and Managers the information they need to effectively run a Housekeeping department. Information will be added on a regular basis and YOU are an important part of this website. Feedback is always welcome and necessary to ensure that each of us can do what we love or have been tasked to do - Housekeeping.
The Business of Hotel Housekeeping
Hotel Housekeeping is more than keeping a hotel clean or spotless. It can also be an indicator of the current or future state of the business. This is because people, whether they’re looking for a five-star accommodation or just a small but decent place to spend the night, will always use cleanliness as one of the most important factors that can help them decide if a hotel is right for them. Therefore, poor housekeeping means poor business, and this has been proven in so many cases. Aside from being an important issue for potential guests, the quality of hotel housekeeping is also important for management because it can affect the need for costly refurbishment or a full renovation of the place. Neither is cheap, that’s why proper housekeeping must be practiced to prevent expenses for things that could very well be avoided. All in all, proper housekeeping is a win-win situation, both for hotel guests and hotel operators. (Source www.dancingforselfesteem.org-Admin)

Manager's Advice
This is my managerial soapbox, with many years of experience, I've grown from inexperienced small town guy waiting on tables to a seasoned Director of Housekeeping for a full service hotel. Over the years I've worked in small hotels, 93-160 rooms, large hotels up to 407 rooms, Ski Resorts, and Beach Resorts so I've been around the block. I've learned many things from interviewing, hiring, training, terminating and everything in between. The information in this area is to help you with difficult decisions, HR advice so you don't get yourself in trouble without knowing, and help when you don't have anywhere to turn. With over 10 years of managerial experience, I'll be honest most of those years I've done some things I shouldn't have because I was led in the wrong direction or didn't know what I was doing. Life tends to teach lessons whether we want it to or not, and so I've learned and still learning and growing, but I hope to help you from making the same mistakes I did.
